SR de l'Ours Cathare
This Super Randonnée visits the Eastern Pyrénées: Ariège, Aude, and in the end, the Haute-Garonne and the Pyrénées-Orientales.
The start place is Foix, located south of Toulouse, close to the borders with Spain and Andorra. Regional trains run north from Foix station to Toulouse, and south to Latour de Carol station, near the Spanish border, where there is a direct connection with the Barcelona regional train service. There is also a direct sleeper train service between Paris and Latour-de-Carol (then Barcelona), with a stop in Foix (the line Paris-Austerlitz <–> Latour-de-Carol).
The Super Randonnée is eight-shaped, with a passage near Foix after 250 km. This may be helpful for riders hesitating to tackle a 600 km loop without support.
The riders navigate between high mountains (highest point: Port de Pailhères, 2001 m) and the Cathar country. The passes are sometimes steep, and difficulties arise where you least expect them. You will ride mainly on small, rough paved roads. A secret and tough SR. Very beautiful, very varied, very wild. It was opened in 2013, on a proposal from François Goas.
